When planning an event, it is essential to determine the quantity of dessert you will need. If you get too little dessert, there may not be enough for all of your guests. If you have too much dessert, you will either try to get your guests to take some home or save it for the next few days.

I will walk you through the difference in size between a 5-inch and a 9-inch cheesecake. Along with when it’s best to choose which size, and how to consider your guests.

There is a difference between the actual serving size and what people consume. The serving size is a standardized recommended amount that someone should eat. This will tell someone how much nutrition is in a serving. In other words, if a serving size is 1 slice and there are 8 slices, then you will know how many calories are in one slice. Now that doesn’t mean that you can only eat one slice or that you can only cut your cheesecake to have 8 slices. Remember, serving sizes don’t always reflect how much someone actually eats; they are a guide.

What are the serving sizes for a 5-inch and a 9-inch cheesecake? A 5-inch cheesecake serving size is 8. Though you can get more slices than 8, you will know that the nutrition information is for 8 slices. A 9-inch cheesecake serving size is 16. Both of these serving sizes are the standard.

When is it best to choose a 5-inch or a 9-inch cheesecake? A 5-inch cheesecake is best for intimate events or for a cheesecake tasting. A 9-inch cheesecake is best for a larger gathering, one that has 15+ people in attendance.

How to figure out which size you actually need for your event? First: look at your guest list, specifically the number of people that are coming to your event. Second: Look and see how many people will more than likely eat dessert. What I mean by this is if a person on your guest list has any dietary restrictions. Whether it’s for one's health, ethical choices, or religious beliefs. Knowing this will help you narrow down your guest list to those who will actually eat dessert. Third: Look at the serving size. That will give you a good estimate of how much a cheesecake serves. Four: If you have time, look up the average number of slices that a cheesecake can get you.

Whether you get a 5-inch or a 9-inch cheesecake, you will know how many slices you are actually getting out of it. This way, you can avoid the awkwardness of running out of cheesecake or asking guests to take some home with them.
